I woke up several times last night, anticipating today. I know Raylea is just starting Pre-K, but for me and her, it is so much more than that. This is the beginning of a 14 year journey that her and I will make together. I know lots of homeschoolers who graduate early, so it may end up being 12 or 13 years, but regardless, we have over a decade to spend together learning together!
I asked her for her first day if she would rather me make her a special breakfast or take her to Casey's Gas Station and eat breakfast there. Of course, she picked Casey's.
Like I said in my last post, each week will be a letter we focus on. This week is "A." She has had her capital A down for a long time, but she has always made the circle backwards on her lowercase "a." Although she ends up with the correct finished product so to speak, I want to really make sure this year she learns to write each letter correctly.
So, after about 30 lowercase "a's" she got it down!
I learned something about myself today.
I lack in the patience area. For instance, I found myself getting flustered just over her not making her "a" correctly. She was trying so hard and wanted to please me, I could tell. Then, I snapped out of it and realized this is her FIRST day of school and I need to take a chill pill. I'm pretty positive that I don't write every letter correctly... take "Z" for instance. I have no clue the correct way to do that in cursive! I just do what looks good to me!
So, come Friday, I am going to relax more when she is working on her letters.
She flew through all the other work pages. One of them she did perfect and so she got a sticker and she was pretty excited about that.
We started the day with devotion, prayer and then our verse.
Psalm 119:105 is the verse we are memorized this semester.
I found with Raylea (and myself) that if we take a few months to say a verse over and over again, it will be permanently stuck. Rather than trying to learn a new one ever week or two. My brain just doesn't work that way.
Today for fun I got some little sparkly squishy balls and taught her basic subtraction. She was pretty bored with it. Next time I will have more than 5 balls to work with! Haha!
Half way through she said "Teacher?" I replied... "yes??" She asked if she could use the potty... I thought it was so cute that she wanted to call me "teacher."
We learned about apples, and all the parts on it and what they're called. I didn't know the inside was called flesh!
We also made apple pie. I have never made it before, and being that Raylea stacked the apples, stirred all the ingredients as they melted and placed the lattice work crust on top, I give her all the credit for it tasting so amazing! Seriously! It was the best I have ever had! I was so proud of her.
of course... a la Mode...
I've been overwhelmed with the amount of love, texts and even a super sweet gift from a friend at church encouraging me as I start this journey...
thanks SO much for caring and reading.
